This year marks our organisation's 50th anniversary, which is an occasion worth commemorating. A lot has changed in that time, but Coeliac New Zealand's vision remains the same: that people with coeliac disease live healthy lives every day.
We raise awareness about coeliac disease and educate others so people with coeliac disease can be included and able to participate fully as they live, work and play. This donation request is being made so you can show support for this valuable work.
Our members say:
“By raising awareness, fostering understanding and implementing practical measures to minimize cross-contamination, supportive environments can be created where individuals with coeliac disease can thrive. Together, we can promote inclusivity and enhance the well-being of everyone, regardless of their dietary requirements.”
“It was really debilitating. I felt ashamed and like a nuisance for even having coeliac disease.”
“The two hardest things for me to wrap my head around when I was first diagnosed was one, telling others and two, I'd never be able to cook out of the hundreds of cookbooks I own.
I didn't want to be one of those 'high maintenance' friends! I feared that I would be labelled as the one with the difficult dietary requirements and so I'd never be invited over for dinner. ”
“Having the right support structures around you plays an important role in your ability to recognise life’s hurdles and gain confidence in your own ability to deal with them. For someone with coeliac disease, having the correct diagnosis and accessing dietary support and information to make the necessary lifestyle changes to prevent further harm, is important. ”
You will have read in our Coeliac Link magazine about our wonderful new resource designed by Brea Marsh specifically for children. We’ve also developed resources for employers via Synergy Health and toolkits for schools and workplaces and educating health professionals about coeliac disease.
