It has been a privilege to serve this community and to contribute to the work that supports, empowers, and advocates for people living with coeliac disease across Aotearoa. What has made this role truly special is the people. I have been fortunate to work alongside an exceptionally hardworking and dedicated team that consistently goes above and beyond to deliver meaningful outcomes for our members. Their commitment to quality, compassion, and continuous improvement has been the heartbeat of Coeliac New Zealand.
I also want to acknowledge our passionate Board, who bring strategic insight, governance strength, and a deep belief in the mission of this organisation. Their support has been invaluable, especially through periods of growth and change.
A particular highlight has been working with the members of our Medical Advisory Panel. Their expertise, generosity, and unwavering dedication to improving the lives of those with coeliac disease have shaped so much of CNZ’s progress. The collaboration between staff, Board, and MAP has been one of the great strengths of this organisation.
I have also been privileged to connect with leaders in the global coeliac community, including Marilyn Geller from the Celiac Disease Foundation. Her leadership, advocacy, and partnership have been inspiring, and those international relationships have helped ensure New Zealand’s voice is heard on the world stage.
Another area of work I am incredibly proud of is our commitment to improving safe dining experiences. The development of the Gluten Free Food Safety Training Masterclass has been a major step forward in helping hospitality providers understand what it truly means to serve safe gluten‑free food. Alongside this, our gold star Dining Out Programme partners continue to demonstrate excellence and leadership by creating trusted, reliable options for our community. Their willingness to invest in training and high standards has made a real difference to the lives of people with coeliac disease.
I also want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the funders who make our work possible - AGT, Pub Charity, the Lion Foundation, Lotteries, Community Organisation Grants Committees, and the Sutherland Self‑Help Trust. Your investment in our mission has enabled us to deliver education, raise awareness, develop resources, and contribute to international research efforts. To our wonderful licensees who proudly display the Crossed Grain logo and continue to create safe, delicious gluten‑free options for our community, thank you for your commitment to excellence. And to our generous donors, your belief in the importance of being part of an organisation that supports and advocates for you is what allows CNZ to thrive. You are at the heart of everything we do.
To our members - thank you. Your stories, your resilience, and your commitment to living well with coeliac disease have been a constant reminder of why this work matters. It has been an honour to serve you.
As CNZ moves into its next chapter, I am confident the organisation is in a strong position, supported by talented people and a clear vision. I look forward to watching its continued growth and impact.
Ngā mihi nui,
Wendy Bremner
