Coeliac Awareness Week: My Food Bag and Griffin’s Launch Tasty New Gluten-Free Options Inspired by Kiwi Cravings

Coeliac Awareness Week is back, and this year, My Food Bag and Griffin’s are teaming up to celebrate the unique experiences of the Coeliac community. Under the theme “Coeliac is Different for Every  Body,” the two brands are using this week to highlight the challenges of living gluten-free, while offering exciting new products that will help satisfy some of the most common cravings shared by those with Coeliac disease.

New Gluten-Free Menu Items to Satisfy Your Cravings

My Food Bag is launching two exclusive meals on their My Gluten Free Bag menu this June:

  • Crispy Battered Snapper Burgers – A gluten-free take on a beloved classic, featuring crispy, battered NZ snapper served with all the classic toppings on a gluten-free sourdough bun.
  • Gluten Free Gingernuts Tiramisu Log – A simple yet playful no-bake dessert that’s ideal for any night of the week.

These new offerings are inspired by My Food Bag’s Cravings After Coeliac Diagnosis survey, which revealed that the hardest part of adapting to a gluten-free diet is missing out on foods they once loved. Popular items such as pies, pastries and bread as well as common dishes such as fish and chips and fried chicken are among the top cravings. These new dishes aim to bring back the familiar tastes that people with Coeliac’s Disease crave - without the gluten.

Survey Reveals the Real Struggles of a Gluten-Free Life

Among the respondents to the Cravings After Coeliac Diagnosis survey, 73% have been living gluten-free for over five years, yet the struggles persist. The hardest part of adapting? Missing out on familiar foods (30%) and finding gluten-free alternatives that taste the same as their gluten-filled counterparts (15%). The demand for more gluten-free options was loud and clear, and both My Food Bag and Griffin’s are stepping up to meet that need.

What’s Next? A Commitment to Gluten-Free Innovation

The response to My Food Bag’s re-launch of their My Gluten Free Bag in 2024 has been overwhelmingly positive – with approximately 300,000 gluten-free meals delivered to Kiwis in the last year, and the brand is committed to making its gluten-free offering the best it can be. The Cravings After Coeliac Diagnosis survey revealed a strong desire for gluten-free comfort foods and indulgences - especially fish and chips, the number one most-missed meal among those following a gluten-free diet. In response, My Food Bag have created a new recipe for Coeliac Awareness Week -  the Gluten-Free Crispy Battered Snapper Burger, available on the menu throughout June.

To celebrate Coeliac Awareness Week, My Food Bag is excited to offer Griffin’s Gluten Free Gingernuts Tiramisu Log to its My Gluten Free Bag customers. This indulgent, fun dessert is the perfect way to satisfy sweet cravings and make weeknight dinners even more enjoyable.
